SURJAN SUPER SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 13, 2025

Title: “Architecture floats, blooms, and breathes.”

Dear Super Schoolers,

This week’s image collection asks:

What happens when architecture gives up gravity and becomes botanical, nautical, and mechanical all at once?

Across shimmering waters and industrial skylines, we witness hybrid vessels and floating platforms transform into living machines, solar cathedrals, and floral clouds suspended above our cities.

From lush barges with topiary towers along Chicago’s waterfront, to data-driven walkways overlaid with celestial geometries and networked canopy ecosystems—these drawings posit the city as a fluid, responsive organism. Structures are no longer fixed; they drift, filter, and glow.

Architecture blooms like wildflowers above rivers, curls like smoke from submerged memories, and anchors trains inside cross-sectioned heads.

We invite you to think of buildings not as objects—but as systems of breath, memory, motion, and regeneration.

This week's themes:

🟢 Floating Forest Infrastructure

🟠 Mid-River Observation Platforms

🟡 Computational Canopies & Sky Gardens

🔴 Sectioned Machines of Urban Memory

⚪ Mechanical Bloomscapes over the Chicago River

Assignment Prompt:

Design a floating structure that merges transportation, memory, and vegetation. Think: a greenhouse-train station, a flower canopy ferry terminal, or a moving archive disguised as a garden. What would its section reveal?

Until next week—stay buoyant, stay blooming,

– Surjan Super School 🌊🌼🛠️

“All architecture is a kind of floating garden—sometimes held down by foundations, sometimes let go into the wind.”
