SURJAN SUPER SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - THANKSGIVING EDITION
WEEK OF NOVEMBER 27, 2025
Theme: “WHAT SURJAN IS THANKFUL FOR THIS YEAR”
I. OPENING NOTE — A SEASON OF GRATITUDE
This Thanksgiving, Surjan Super School pauses to acknowledge the immense, dazzling network of people, ideas, tools, images, and transformations that shaped this year.
It has been a year of expansion, experimentation, model-cities, AI architectures, new pedagogies, and an ever-growing visual universe that has redefined what an art–architecture school can be.
And so, in this newsletter, we honor what Surjan is thankful for—the forces that made 2025 not just a productive year, but a profound one.
II. WHAT SURJAN IS THANKFUL FOR — A LIST IN FOUR CONSTELLATIONS
A. The Work
The Joyful Infrastructure Project For revealing that cities can be soft, chromatic, and generous.
The Mega-Model Worlds For proving that architectural imagination expands exponentially when drawings wrap around form like skin.
The Surjan Super School Newsletters For letting ideas become stories, and stories become pedagogy.
The Endless Image Streams For giving birth to new narrative systems, new cities, new infrastructures, and new architectural futures.
B. The Students & Collaborators
Those who experiment without fear For showing that the future belongs to the brave.
Those who embrace AI as both collaborator and co-conspirator For modeling a new kind of creative literacy.
Those who stayed up late—rendering, building, drawing, testing For pushing the work past its expected horizon.
C. The Tools & Technologies
AI Image Generators & 3D Tools For turning conceptual whispers into gigantic visual universes.
Rhino, Veras, 3D AI Studio, and every new beta interface For helping sketch, model, animate, translate, and reimagine.
The Digital Fabrication Universe For bridging the world between imagined forms and buildable realities.
Every glitch, error message, and strange computational accident For reminding us that innovation is often found inside the imperfections.
D. The Personal Journey
The chance to return to teaching in new forms For continuing a lifelong commitment to architectural education.
The ability to merge identity and architecture For creating space where genderqueer and nonbinary imagination guides form-making.
The thousands of images created this year For building a visual library that now fuels a new generation of assignments and studios.
The Surjan Super School Community For listening, believing, sharing, and walking into each experiment with heart.
III. WHAT THIS YEAR TAUGHT US
That architecture is no longer a discipline—it is an ecosystem.
That AI is not the end of creativity—it is the amplifier of our inner worlds.
That buildings need not be heavy; they can be playful, bright, and childlike.
That pedagogy is most powerful when it is inventive rather than inherited.
That every model, drawing, and story carries the potential to change how students see the possible.
IV. A THANKSGIVING REFLECTION — FROM SURJAN TO THE SCHOOL
This school is not made of walls or rooms. It is made of models, stories, colors, ideas, fragments, memories, and thousands of speculative futures. It lives everywhere Surjan has imagined it. And for that, we give thanks.
V. QUOTE OF THE WEEK
